Why projects fail

Modern business is based on projects. They are the backbone of companies, institutions, countries and individual people.

Although we are becoming better educated in project management, most projects fail. Standish Group’s research and my observations over the years as a consultant confirm that 3/4 of projects fail. The IT industry and the strategic projects category have the highest percentage of failed projects.

Of course, there is a long list of reasons why projects fail. I have been conducting my own research project on this issue for the past five years. While there are many reasons for failed projects, basically every project is subject to three pitfalls. I would say. three minefields.

I invite you to listen to this episode, where I introduce each of these minefields. I also present typical behaviors of stakeholders and typical behaviors of managers, project leaders, when a project falls into the trap of these three minefields.
