10-month transformation program for Data Intelligence – Business Insights & Analytics team (Rossmann)
Rossmann’s analytics team operated at a high operational level, providing sound analysis and reports.
However, with the increase in business scale and complexity of decisions, Rossmann faced a new challenge. It needed analysts who not only provide analytical results, but actively co-create strategic decisions.
So the ambition of the program was more than to develop technical competence. The goal was to make the leap in role: from an operations analyst to a strategic decision advisor – someone who understands the implications, can model scenarios and can consciously support managers in high business-weighted choices.
The program was designed as a 10-month development process, based on work on real decision-making problems. Participants completed more than 100 tasks and simulations, using tools to support key decision types: sensitivity analysis (Sens-IT), building decision trees (DecisionTree), generating business predictions (PBF), conducting statistical experiments (ANOVA) and analyzing earned value in projects (EVT), among others. A key element was to teach how to select the right method for the type of decision, rather than mechanically applying tools.
As a result, the program has brought real change on three levels:
– thinking – from data analysis to decision analysis,
– workshop – conscious selection of methods to the type of problem,
– role – from analysis provider to business partner in strategic discussions.
As summarized by the head of Rossmann’s Business Insights & Analytics unit, Piotr Wolankiewicz, the program exceeded the team’s expectations – both in terms of the scale of the work and the maturity of the competencies that participants began to apply in their daily decision-making practice.
This was not a course.
This was a transformation of analysts into decision advisors.
